Many years ago, the Mexican government offered different crafts, trades and skills for Mexican Nationals to learn a skill that would give the opportunity to locals to become self-sufficient throughout the region.

Among many other techniques, cigar rolling was offered. Mother Garcia Herrera was immediately struck with interest.  Despite the majority male practice, she excelled in her trade, and over time, became a well-known ‘roller’.  In fact, she eventually became the sole distributor of quality cigars within her region of Mexico.  Mostly because the competitors could not compete with the demand of wanting her cigars.  Her keen capability of choosing great tobacco and capability of knowing how to roll a fine cigar.

Many years later, entrepreneur Dr. Aaron Bryant (avid cigar lover) traveled around the world and found himself as a frequent visitor within the Compostela region.  During a casual conversation and wanting a cigar, a friend recommended the local cigar.  After tasting it…Dr. Bryant was very intrigued of the background and source behind the cigar.  After multiple visits, Dr. Bryant learned that the cigar was truly a family business with close ties to the community and did not market outside of the area.  “This was not fair” – thought Aaron.

Dr. Bryant and the Garcia Herrera family came to an agreement and now, the world has the same option of tasting a wonderfully hand rolled cigar.

The cigar tobacco farm is grown within two hours of Skiphire Cigar Headquarters.  Still to this day the Garcia Herrera family hand picks the tobacco for the proper look, smell and color.  The family is also part of the company to ensure quality rolling is performed to ensure the best product is provided within each fine cigar just for YOU.

Mother Garcia Herrera chose the name Skiphire because she envisioned her children and grandchildren will all learn about the joys of cigars and cigar rolling as a family (i.e., a union).
